So there’s not a whole lot of women out there who enjoy whiskey! Usually it’s the sweeter drinks that are preferred by women, and the strong, throat searing drinks like whiskey and bourbon that men love.
However, whiskey’s popularity with women is on the rise. To get you started, here are 4 awesome recipes that you should try out before Summer ends.
1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce sugar
2 ounces water
1 1/2 ounces of Scotch whiskey
To make the sour mix, combine the lemon juice, sugar and water. Stir briskly to dissolve. Combine the whiskey and the sour mix in a large glass. Add some ice, stir and garnish with a Maraschino cherry.
MIXED BERRY AND FIG OLD FASHIONED
1 tsb sugar
A few blackberries and raspberries
I medium fig, quartered
2 dashes of bitters
2 ounces Scotch whiskey
Muddle and stir sugar, berries, fig and bitters in a cocktail shaker. Add the whiskey, and stir to combine. Pour the strained mixture over ice and serve garnished with a fig slice.
2 cups water
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
32 ounces Bourbon
Combine the water, sugar and chopped mint leaves in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow syrup to cool, approximately 1 hour. Pour syrup through a strainer.
Fill eight glasses with crushed ice and pour 4 ounces of bourbon and 1/4 cup mint syrup in each. (Proportions can be adjusted depending on each person’s sweet tooth). Top each cup with a mint sprig and a straw.
About 8 mint leaves, torn (plus more for garnish)
1/2 small red plum, peeled and diced
1/2 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce cointreau
2 ounces whiskey
Muddle blackberries, mint, plum and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker, until broken up. Add ice, cointreau and whiskey. Shake vigorously 12 to 15 seconds. Strain into a low ball glass filled with ice and garnish with a slice of plum and sprig of mint.
