Twas the night before the party and all through the town, the only creatures
Stirring were those worried about wrinkles and frowns…
Hopefully you have already been taking years off your appearance by using your SilcSKin anti-wrinkle pads! That and a few make up tips will show you how to achieve a more youthful look!
Less is more! It’s all about enhancing your best features without overdoing. Do not forget the things you’ll want to avoid; certain colors, textures, and techniques that pile on the years. Read on and learn how makeup can be your age-defying friend.
1. Skin Prep Tip:
Moisturize entire face excluding the eyelids prior to applying your Foundation. Moisturizer on the lids will make your eye makeup and liner smudge and transfer.
2. Foundation Tips:
Skip the heavy foundation and dense powder; both age your skin. Instead, opt for a liquid foundation with moisturizers and always try to match your complexion color. This way, you only have to use foundation where you need it.
Try Vitalumiere by Chanel Moisture Rich Fluid makeup.
You should also consider using an under make up primer. It will smooth out your complexion, soften lines and keep foundation and blush on longer.
I like Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
You may also try some of the new BB creams that are foundations, moisturizers and primers in one. These are great on mature skin. Look for ones with a fuller coverage.
My new favorite BB cream is Hydra Life BB Crème by Dior
3. Concealer Tips:
Avoid a too light concealer and lose any eye cream with iridescence. Once you’re over 40, puffiness is a bigger problem than dark circles, and that means anything light or shiny makes the bags look bigger. By making these appear bigger it also increases the shadows in the indentation under the eye. Use a one-shade concealer lighter than your foundation and blend it well. Only apply it to the indentation using your ring finger and pat the product on. Use a very light translucent powder to set, if any at all.
4. Eye Tips:
Lose your liquid liner and switch to either a soft waterproof pencil or a long lasting gel eyeliner, both which need to be smudged into the lash line. Nothing accentuates crow’s feet and tiny lines like the harshness of liquid liner. Try a pencil in a soft black, charcoal, navy, or brown. Draw on and then smudge for a soft look. Uplift the outer corner of your liner slightly to create a more uplifted look to your eyes.
Recommend Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil or Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner
When choosing a shadow, stick to neutral shades with no shimmer – and use color sparingly. The goal is to keep a soft focus around the eyes, where aging shows up first. You can also sweep a lighter color above your eyeliner and skip shadow completely. I like Bobbi Brown Pastel Eye Shadow Pallette
5. Lash tips:
Curl your eyelashes! This opens up your eyes and it’s the easiest thing you can do to make your eyes look bigger and younger. Next, look for the blackest black mascara you can find—”it will make the whites of your eyes look clearer and whiter. There is only one Eyelash Curler in my mind! Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler.
I would also recommend a Mascara – Diorshow by Dior.
6. Blush Tips:
Whether applying a bronzer or blush, never put it on the apples of your cheeks. Once you hit 40, the “apples” begin to slide south and you’ll end up with blush closer to your mouth! That pulls the face down and makes you look older. Instead, apply it only to the top of your cheekbone, beginning just under the center of your eye and sweeping upward toward your temple. This brings the eye upward, and can instantly take years off your face! I recommend Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in natural and Benefit Dandelion Blush
7. Lips Tips:
Swap out lipstick for lip-gloss. Nothing is more aging than lips with lines and those vertical ridges that hit the center of your upper and lower lip occur with age. A matte or frosted lipstick will accentuate them. A gloss will make them all but disappear! Skip the sparkly, glitter glosses and go for one with a light tint in a color close to your natural lip tone. If your lips need more definition, add a pencil in a color that matches your lips or use a clear wax lip liner. Outline and then put a few light strokes on your lips and smudge with your pinky finger. Apply gloss and you’ll have definition, color, and shine! Some good ones to try, Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint, Sephora Lip Gloss in confectionery, Makeup For Ever Aqua lip DuWop Reverse Lipliner
8. Brow Tips:
Soften your eyebrows. Try changing up the look of your eyebrows first. Skip the skinny brow. Instead, go for softer, slightly fuller look and fill in bare spots with either a powdered brow color or a soft pencil in the same shade as your natural brows or one to two shades lighter. Never, go darker on your brows! My favorites! Senna Form-Brow Kit in Ash Blonde, Neutral or Dark MAC Cosmetics Eye Brows in Fling
